its a rejection of every thing hip and cool...ergo its the new cool. as mainstream culture continues to push for new and more, geek culture rejects that and looks for the anti-cool to embrace that. i.e. cool kids 80's hip hop style compared to the neo bling bling, gucci souljah boy baggy 90's style. also the hipster style rejecting the abercrombie/ hollister or marc jacobs/ true religion, key$ha & drake neo bubble gum style.
